Zlatan's wedding attracts mixed reactions

Describe the image

Nigerian street-pop star Zlatan Ibile has become a major topic of conversation following his traditional wedding to longtime partner Davita Lamai in Lagos on October 24, 2026.

The colourful ceremony attracted entertainers, friends and family members, with photographs and videos spreading across social media. While many fans congratulated the couple and praised their traditional outfits, other conversations focused on the bride’s appearance, the couple’s decision to marry after having children together and the personalities who attended the celebration.

The different reactions have turned the wedding into one of the most discussed Nigerian entertainment stories of the week.

Bride’s appearance becomes a subject of online debate

One of the conversations surrounding the wedding centred on Davita’s appearance.

Several social media users praised her traditional wedding look, which featured a red outfit, coral beads and an elaborate headpiece. Others made negative comments about her looks, prompting criticism from people who felt the bride should be allowed to enjoy her special day without being subjected to unnecessary scrutiny.

The discussion has also reopened conversations about beauty standards and the pressure placed on women who become associated with popular entertainers.

For many supporters, the important part of the occasion was the couple’s decision to celebrate their relationship publicly. They argued that a wedding should be remembered for the commitment being celebrated rather than online comparisons or personal attacks.

Joke Jigan’s ‘Lagos baddies’ comment sparks laughter

Another moment that attracted attention came from Nollywood actress Joke Jigan.

Following the ceremony, Jigan took to Instagram to question the apparent absence of popular Lagos socialites commonly described online as “Lagos baddies”.

She joked that the wedding appeared to feature many well-dressed men but very few of the women she expected to see at a typical Lagos celebrity gathering.

Her comment generated humorous responses, with some users agreeing that the event had a noticeably different atmosphere. Others praised the wedding for its classy presentation and suggested that the absence of certain social-media personalities was not a problem.

The exchange added another layer to the online conversation, shifting attention from the couple to the style and guest list of the celebration.

Davido’s appearance and cash display attract attention

Afrobeats star Davido was among the high-profile personalities linked to the celebration. Reports identified him as one of Zlatan’s groomsmen, while videos from the event showed him celebrating with the newlyweds and spraying dollar bills.

Content creator OGB Recent also attracted attention after arriving with a vault containing bundles of cash, which he reportedly presented during the festivities.

The displays prompted a mixture of admiration, jokes and questions about the amount of money spent at celebrity celebrations. Some viewers praised the guests for showing generosity towards their friend, while others wondered about the scale of the cash gifts.

The wedding’s aso-ebi arrangements also generated discussion before the ceremony. Reports said Zlatan’s associate Israel DMW disclosed that some fabric packages cost as much as ₦1.2 million, with different options available to guests. The reported prices prompted debate about the cost of participating in high-profile Nigerian weddings.

Why the couple’s decision to marry attracted comments

Zlatan and Davita have been together for several years and share two sons. Their family life became another subject of online discussion after the traditional ceremony.

Some social media users questioned why the couple chose to formalise their relationship after already welcoming two children. Others pushed back, arguing that the timing of a marriage is a private decision and should not be treated as a public controversy.

Reports also indicated that the couple had held a private civil wedding earlier in 2026, before the more public traditional celebration in Lagos. The October ceremony therefore represented a major public celebration of a relationship that had already included years together and raising a family.

The couple’s children were also part of the wider wedding story, with their family featuring in the announcement and preparations shared online.

Wizkid’s absence fuels another conversation

The guest list also became a talking point after some fans noticed that singer Wizkid was not seen at the event.

A social media commentator criticised his absence, questioning whether major music stars should make more effort to attend important occasions involving colleagues and friends.

Other fans defended Wizkid, noting that an entertainer’s absence from a wedding does not automatically indicate a disagreement or a breakdown in friendship. The singer had not publicly explained why he did not attend, and there was no confirmed evidence that his absence was connected to any dispute with Zlatan.

Davido’s presence, meanwhile, attracted further attention because of the close friendship between the two musicians.

A celebration that became a wider social media debate

Zlatan’s wedding has highlighted the attention Nigerian celebrities receive when they share major personal milestones with the public. From the bride’s outfit and the guest list to the cost of aso-ebi and the couple’s family decisions, almost every aspect of the ceremony became material for online discussion.

Yet, amid the competing opinions, the central event remains a celebration of Zlatan and Davita’s relationship. The couple have received congratulations from fans and colleagues, while many supporters have urged social media users to respect their privacy and allow them to enjoy the occasion.

For Zlatan, whose public career has largely been associated with music, performances and street-pop culture, the wedding offered fans a glimpse into an important personal milestone. The online reactions may continue, but the couple’s marriage—not the comments surrounding it—remains the main story.
