Nollywood actress and filmmaker Toyin Abraham has attracted attention after sharing a throwback video highlighting her previous experience with TikTok. The post appeared shortly after fellow actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele announced a partnership with Facebook to promote her upcoming movie, The Four: No One Fights Alone.

The timing of Abraham’s post has generated conversations across social media, with some users interpreting it as a response to Akindele’s announcement. Others have defended the actress, saying she was simply remembering an earlier professional experience while promoting her next project, Bestie.

Toyin Abraham revisits her TikTok experience

On Friday, October 30, Abraham shared a throwback post on Instagram featuring her earlier engagement with TikTok during the promotion of her comedy-drama, Oversabi Aunty.

In her caption, she described the experience as memorable and expressed interest in securing more exciting partnerships ahead of her next film.

She wrote: “Throwback to when TikTok collaborated with OVERSABI AUNTY! It was such a beautiful experience, and I’m looking forward to more amazing collaborations as we gear up for BESTIE. More magic, more creativity and bigger moments ahead!”

The post also served as a promotional reminder about Bestie, which is scheduled to begin showing in Nigerian cinemas on December 16, 2026. Pre-sales were announced to begin on November 1.

Funke Akindele announces Facebook partnership

Abraham’s throwback came shortly after Akindele announced her partnership with Facebook for The Four: No One Fights Alone.

In her October 29 announcement, Akindele described the arrangement as an opportunity to take the film to a wider audience and bring fans closer to its production and promotional journey.

She said the partnership would provide audiences with behind-the-scenes content, updates from promotional activities and moments from the film’s premieres.

Meta, Facebook’s parent company, subsequently confirmed the partnership publicly. The company said it would support activities around the film’s London and Lagos premieres, while helping connect the filmmaker with audiences and content creators.

The film is scheduled to open in cinemas on December 11, five days before Abraham’s Bestie.

Social media users debate the timing

The close timing of the two announcements quickly became a talking point. Some social media users suggested that Abraham was trying to remind the public that she had also enjoyed a social media platform partnership before Akindele’s latest announcement.

Others questioned why she chose that particular moment to share the throwback. Some comments accused her of encouraging comparisons, while supporters argued that she had every right to celebrate a previous experience and promote her forthcoming production.

The debate has highlighted how closely fans follow the professional activities of both actresses, particularly when their film promotions happen around the same period.

However, neither actress has publicly stated that the posts were connected or that the development was intended as a response to the other.

A long-running rivalry returns to the spotlight

The renewed discussion also reflects years of public speculation about the relationship between Abraham and Akindele.

Both actresses have built successful careers in Nollywood, particularly in Yoruba-language and mainstream Nigerian cinema. Their films have sometimes competed for audiences during major cinema seasons, encouraging comparisons among fans.

Their respective releases, including Everybody Loves Jenifa and Alakada: Bad and Boujee, have previously attracted attention amid discussions about competition in the industry.

There have also been moments that appeared to suggest improved relations between the actresses. Public interactions and positive comments in previous years raised hopes among some fans that the reported tension had eased.

More recently, footage from an event hosted around Iyabo Ojo’s film The Return of Arinzo renewed speculation after viewers interpreted an interaction between the actresses as an apparent snub. The interpretation circulated widely online, although the video alone does not establish what happened between them privately.

Two films prepare for the December cinema season

Beyond the online debate, both filmmakers are preparing for an important period in the Nigerian cinema calendar.

Akindele’s The Four: No One Fights Alone is scheduled for December 11, while Abraham’s Bestie is expected in cinemas from December 16.

Their release dates place the films within the same busy festive-season market, where audience attention, promotional campaigns and cinema attendance are likely to become major talking points.

For now, Abraham’s TikTok throwback has prompted another round of comparisons between two influential Nollywood figures. Whether fans interpret the post as ordinary promotion or a pointed reminder, the actresses’ upcoming film releases will provide plenty for movie audiences to discuss.
