Harry Kane endured a frustrating afternoon as Bayern Munich were held to a 2–2 draw by Borussia Dortmund in an entertaining Bundesliga clash at the Allianz Arena on Saturday, October 31, 2026.

The England captain missed a second-half penalty and later struck the post as Bayern twice surrendered their advantage. Dortmund substitute Fábio Silva delivered the decisive moment, scoring an 89th-minute equaliser to secure a valuable point for the visitors.

The result kept both clubs level on 18 points after eight league matches, with Bayern remaining top of the Bundesliga table on goal difference.

Kane's Ballon d'Or celebration precedes difficult afternoon

The match was particularly significant for Kane because it was his first appearance since winning the 2026 Ballon d'Or.

The Bayern striker was honoured before kick-off, with the prestigious individual award presented to the home supporters. Expectations were high as he returned to the starting lineup following his absence from Bayern's midweek German Cup victory over Magdeburg.

However, the celebration did not translate into an easy afternoon on the pitch.

Bayern dominated possession during the opening stages and created several opportunities, including an effort from Michael Olise that struck the crossbar.

Dortmund briefly thought they had taken the lead when Jobe Bellingham found the net in the 34th minute. However, VAR ruled out the goal after identifying a foul on Bayern goalkeeper Jonas Urbig during the build-up.

Bayern eventually broke the deadlock in the 38th minute through Konrad Laimer, who converted the rebound after Gregor Kobel saved his initial attempt. The Austrian's goal gave the hosts a 1–0 advantage at half-time.

Kane misses penalty as Dortmund fight back

Bayern had a golden opportunity to double their lead in the 56th minute after Felix Nmecha handled Kane's goal-bound effort inside the penalty area.

Kane stepped forward to take the spot-kick, but his attempt struck the crossbar and bounced away. It was a rare miss from the England captain, who had converted 25 of his previous 26 Bundesliga penalties.

The missed opportunity proved costly almost immediately.

Four minutes later, Dortmund found their equaliser through Serhou Guirassy. Nico Schlotterbeck helped create the opening, with Carney Chukwuemeka providing the pass that allowed Guirassy to fire past goalkeeper Jonas Urbig.

The goal brought Dortmund back into the contest and put Bayern under renewed pressure.

Upamecano restores Bayern's advantage

Bayern responded quickly and regained the lead in the 66th minute.

Joshua Kimmich delivered a cross into the penalty area, where Kane produced an intelligent headed pass across goal. Dayot Upamecano was perfectly positioned to turn the ball into the net and make it 2–1.

The assist offered Kane an opportunity to make amends for his penalty miss, and Bayern appeared to have regained control of the match.

Kane came close to extending the advantage in the 75th minute, but his effort struck the post. He also sent another attempt narrowly wide three minutes later.

Bayern continued creating opportunities, but their inability to secure a third goal left the door open for Dortmund.

Fábio Silva scores dramatic late equaliser

Dortmund refused to give up and continued pushing forward in search of another goal.

Their persistence was rewarded in the 89th minute when Fábio Silva capitalised on a loose clearance following a challenge by Konstantinos Karetsas.

The Portuguese forward collected the opportunity and fired a low finish into the far corner, beating Urbig to make it 2–2.

The late equaliser silenced the home crowd and ensured Dortmund would leave Munich with a point.

There was still time for Bayern to find a winner. Substitute Lennart Karl struck the crossbar during stoppage time, but the rebound opportunity did not produce a goal.

The final whistle confirmed a dramatic draw, with Dortmund celebrating a result that maintained their position alongside Bayern at the top of the table.

Bayern suffer injury concerns ahead of Champions League clash The result was not Bayern's only concern, as the team also experienced injury problems during the encounter.

Ismael Saibari and Serge Gnabry were forced off during the first half, while Michael Olise also appeared to suffer an injury later in the match.

Saibari's situation was particularly concerning after he required assistance to leave the pitch. Bayern will need to assess the players before determining their availability for upcoming fixtures.

The German champions are scheduled to face Atlético Madrid in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, November 3.

Bayern's coaching staff will therefore have limited time to evaluate the injuries and prepare the squad for another demanding European fixture.

What the 2–2 draw means for the Bundesliga title race

The result leaves Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund level on 18 points after eight matches, with Bayern maintaining first place through a superior goal difference.

For Dortmund, earning a point away from home against the defending champions represents an important result, particularly after twice coming from behind.

Bayern, meanwhile, will be disappointed after creating enough chances to win the match. Kane's missed penalty, the four occasions they struck the woodwork and Silva's late equaliser all contributed to a frustrating evening.

The match also demonstrated why Der Klassiker remains one of German football's most closely followed rivalries. Both teams showed attacking quality, but neither managed to deliver the decisive finish needed to claim victory.

For Kane, the afternoon brought contrasting emotions: a celebration of his Ballon d'Or achievement, an unusual penalty miss and an important assist. For Dortmund, Silva's late intervention ensured the spotlight ended on their dramatic comeback.
