France–Nigeria Business Forum Postponed After Macron’s Visit Is Delayed
The Lagos forum scheduled for October 29 has been postponed until 2027 following the decision to delay the French president’s state visit to Nigeria.

The 2026 France–Nigeria Business Forum has been postponed following the delay of French President Emmanuel Macron’s planned state visit to Nigeria, according to a communication from the France–Nigeria Business Council.
The forum was scheduled to take place in Lagos on Thursday, October 29, 2026. However, the council informed participants of the postponement on Saturday, October 24, stating that a new date and revised arrangements would be communicated once they had been confirmed.
The postponement follows the decision to reschedule Macron’s planned visit, which had been expected to provide an opportunity for renewed diplomatic engagement and discussions on economic cooperation between France and Nigeria.
The forum was expected to bring together businesses and other stakeholders from both countries to explore investment opportunities, strengthen commercial relationships and discuss areas of mutual economic interest.
Forum expected to promote business cooperation
The France–Nigeria Business Forum was designed to provide a platform for companies, investors and institutional representatives to engage with potential partners and discuss opportunities in both markets.
Such gatherings can help businesses understand market conditions, establish commercial relationships and identify areas where investment could be mutually beneficial.
For Nigerian businesses, engagement with French companies can create opportunities to explore partnerships, technology transfer, financing and access to international markets. French businesses, meanwhile, can use such forums to understand Nigeria’s commercial environment and identify potential partners.
However, the postponement means participants will have to wait for a revised schedule before proceeding with plans connected to the event.
The council has not announced a replacement date for the Lagos forum. Businesses intending to attend will therefore need to rely on further communication from the organisers before making new arrangements.
Macron’s planned visit to Nigeria
Macron’s state visit was expected to strengthen engagement between the French and Nigerian governments. High-level visits can provide opportunities for discussions on trade, investment, security, education, technology and other areas of cooperation.
The visit was also expected to provide a diplomatic setting for interactions involving business leaders and representatives of institutions from both countries.
The postponement of the visit has consequently affected the timing of the business forum associated with it. However, the rescheduling does not, by itself, establish that broader diplomatic or commercial cooperation between the two countries has been suspended.
No replacement date for the visit or the forum had been confirmed in the cited report as of October 25.
Implications for participating businesses
For companies that had planned to attend, the immediate concern will be the uncertainty surrounding the new date and any changes to the programme.
Participants may need to review travel plans, accommodation arrangements, meeting schedules and other preparations once the organisers provide updated information.
Businesses that intended to use the forum to meet potential partners may also have to postpone those discussions or arrange separate meetings in the meantime.
Nevertheless, the postponement should not automatically be interpreted as a setback for every commercial relationship between France and Nigeria. Companies in both countries can continue their existing business activities independently of the event.
The longer-term impact on participation and planned engagements will depend partly on when the forum is rescheduled and whether its programme changes.
Background to Nigeria–France relations
Nigeria and France maintain diplomatic and economic relations that include trade, investment and cooperation in several sectors. High-level visits and business forums can provide opportunities to strengthen these ties, but commercial relations also depend on the activities of individual businesses, government policies and broader economic conditions.
Nigeria’s large consumer market and business environment make it an important potential destination for international investment. French companies, in turn, operate across a range of sectors that may offer opportunities for partnerships with Nigerian organisations.
A rescheduled forum could still provide a setting for these discussions once the organisers establish a new date.
For now, participants and interested businesses are awaiting further information from the France–Nigeria Business Council. Until an updated schedule is released, the October 29 event should be treated as postponed rather than proceeding as originally planned.
