Nigerian comedian and actor Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, has apologised to fans after his Cardiff comedy show in Wales was disrupted by a payment dispute involving the event organisers. He has called for a clear resolution for ticket holders, including information on refunds for those who paid but did not see the advertised performances.

The incident occurred on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at Valegate Retail Park in Cardiff, during the UK leg of his “AY Live: Single and Not Searching” tour. Attendees reportedly waited for hours amid confusion and repeated delays, with many eventually leaving without watching the show.

AY addressed the controversy on Monday through a statement and video shared on social media. He apologised to those who bought tickets, travelled to the venue and waited for the event to begin, acknowledging that they deserved better organisation and timely communication.

“You should never have been caught in the middle of a payment dispute,” he said, according to reports published by Nigerian news outlets.

AY explains what happened in Cardiff

In his account, AY said he and the other comedians travelled to Cardiff and arrived at the venue ready to perform. However, he alleged that outstanding payment commitments delayed their appearance and that efforts to resolve the issue continued into the night.

By the time the performers gained access to the hall, he said, most of the audience had already left.

The comedian also described earlier difficulties during the tour, alleging that payments and accommodation arrangements had not been handled as agreed. He maintained that the performers had travelled in good faith and were prepared to fulfil their commitments to the audience.

AY stressed that he understood why attendees were angry, particularly because his name and face had featured prominently in the event’s promotion. He said he valued the trust supporters had placed in him over more than two decades in entertainment and did not want the experience to define his relationship with fans.

His explanation represents his account of the incident. As of the latest reports reviewed, the event organisers had not issued a detailed public response explaining their position on the payment dispute.

Refunds become the priority for disappointed fans

The most immediate concern for affected ticket holders is getting their money back.

AY called on the event organisers and UK tour management to establish a practical refund process. In his video explanation, he also advised fans to contact their ticket sellers and consider asking their bank or card provider about a payment dispute or chargeback where appropriate.

However, there is an important distinction between a promise to pursue refunds and a confirmed refund programme. Reports published on October 26 did not identify a final refund timetable or a completed repayment process. Fans were therefore still awaiting clear instructions on how to recover their ticket money.

The situation has placed pressure on the organisers to communicate directly with customers and explain what steps will be taken. For attendees, a timely response is essential after an event that left many waiting without receiving the entertainment they had paid for.

Remaining UK tour dates still scheduled

Despite the Cardiff disruption, AY said the remaining dates on his UK tour were still scheduled to proceed. The announced programme included:

  • Birmingham: October 30, 2026
  • London: October 31, 2026
  • Manchester: November 1, 2026 The comedian expressed hope that the remaining shows would go ahead as planned. The Cardiff incident, however, has raised questions about the importance of clear agreements between performers, promoters and event organisers before audiences arrive.

A live event depends on more than the performer appearing on a poster. Venues, promoters, payment arrangements, staffing and communication must all work together. When those responsibilities break down, ticket holders often bear the consequences despite having fulfilled their part by purchasing tickets and attending.

AY says he is open to returning to Cardiff

AY indicated that he would consider returning to Cardiff in the future if suitable arrangements could be made with a reliable local partner. He also said he and his team would review the incident and consider appropriate formal steps.

For now, the focus remains on resolving complaints from the affected audience and providing clear information about refunds. The organisers' response will be important in establishing how the dispute is addressed and whether further action is needed.

The comedian’s apology acknowledges the disappointment experienced by fans, but the next test will be whether a practical resolution follows. For those who left Cardiff without seeing the advertised show, accountability means more than an explanation: it means receiving clear answers and knowing how their money will be returned.
