Barcelona Beat Aston Villa 3-0 as Raphinha Scores Twice in Champions League

BARCELONA — Barcelona produced an impressive performance to defeat Aston Villa 3-0 at the Spotify Camp Nou on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, strengthening their position in the UEFA Champions League league phase. Lamine Yamal opened the scoring early, before Raphinha struck twice after the break to secure a convincing home victory for Hansi Flick’s side.

Yamal Punishes Villa’s Defensive Error

Barcelona made a fast start and took the lead in the seventh minute. Aston Villa attempted to play out from the back, but pressure around their build-up led to a misplaced pass. Yamal seized the opportunity, intercepted the ball and calmly finished to put the hosts ahead.

Villa responded positively. John McGinn and Nicolas Jackson helped the visitors move forward, while Matty Cash and Johan Manzambi were involved in promising attacking moments. However, Barcelona continued to threaten through their movement and quick combinations.

The visitors created chances during the first half but lacked the precision needed to beat goalkeeper Joan García. Barcelona, meanwhile, maintained control during key periods.

Raphinha Delivers the Decisive Blow

The hosts increased their advantage seven minutes after the restart. In the 52nd minute, Raphinha found space and sent a low effort towards goal. The shot took a deflection on its way past goalkeeper Zion Suzuki, making it 2-0 and giving Barcelona greater control.

Villa tried to respond, but Barcelona’s pressure and attacking quality continued to cause problems. Raphinha then completed his brace in the 64th minute, finishing first-time after João Cancelo produced an excellent outside-of-the-boot delivery. The goal extended the lead to 3-0 and effectively settled the contest.

Emery introduced substitutes, including Ross Barkley, Ibrahim Mbaye and Leon Goretzka, as he looked for a way back into the match. Villa did not give up, and Goretzka later came close when his header struck the post. The visitors, however, could not find a consolation goal.

Barcelona’s Control and Villa’s Response

Villa had spells of encouraging play and created opportunities of their own. Joan García was called upon to make interventions, while the visitors’ inability to convert their chances proved costly.

Flick’s team were more clinical in the decisive moments. Yamal’s early finish punished a mistake in Villa’s build-up, while Raphinha’s two goals demonstrated Barcelona’s ability to exploit spaces after the interval. Cancelo’s assist for the third goal also highlighted the quality of the hosts’ attacking play.

The victory gives Barcelona a boost in the league phase and reinforces their credentials as contenders for the latter stages of the competition. For Villa, the defeat is a setback after their unbeaten start, but their attacking spells offered signs that they can compete at this level.

Barcelona will look to carry the confidence from this performance into their next fixture, while Emery must address the defensive errors and improve his side’s finishing before their next European assignment.

Barcelona moved to nine points and climbed above Villa in the league-phase standings on goals scored. The result underlined how one lapse in possession can change a European match quickly.
