Tinubu Praises City Boy Movement and Son Seyi at Abuja Meeting
President Bola Tinubu commends the City Boy Movement for mobilising youths nationwide, praises his son Seyi Tinubu’s leadership, and highlights youth empowerment initiatives during a meeting at the State House in Abuja.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has praised the City Boy Movement and its members for supporting his administration, acknowledging their efforts to mobilise young Nigerians and communicate government policies across the country.
The President made the remarks on Monday, October 19, 2026, during a meeting with members and leaders of the youth-oriented political group at the State House in Abuja. The gathering brought together government officials, political leaders and supporters of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Tinubu also commended his son, Seyi Tinubu, who serves as the patron of the City Boy Movement, for helping establish and organise the group. He encouraged him to continue working with young Nigerians and contributing to public service.
Tinubu Commends City Boy Movement’s Organisation
Speaking at the gathering, the President described the City Boy Movement as an organised political support group that had developed a grassroots network extending across different parts of Nigeria.
Tinubu said the movement had gone beyond gathering supporters by establishing structures designed to engage young people, listen to community concerns and promote communication between its members.
He highlighted the group’s reported nationwide presence, its call centre and its community outreach initiative, City Boys Care, as examples of its organisational efforts.
The President also acknowledged the role played by the movement’s members in defending his administration’s policies in markets, campuses, motor parks and on social media, including during periods when the policies faced criticism.
According to Tinubu, the commitment demonstrated by the group’s members had not gone unnoticed.
He expressed appreciation for their continued support, particularly during the implementation of major economic reforms, including the removal of the fuel subsidy, currency reforms and changes to the country’s tax system.
The President noted that Nigerian youths had remained involved in national affairs despite the difficulties associated with the reforms.
President Addresses Son Seyi Tinubu
One of the notable moments at the meeting came when Tinubu addressed his son, Seyi, directly, praising his involvement in the City Boy Movement.
The President said he was proud of the way Seyi and his colleagues had invested their time in engaging young people, listening to their concerns and building an organised network without necessarily seeking political titles or public office.
Tinubu also referred to questions he had received about his son’s political ambitions, making a remark that attracted attention during the gathering.
He said Seyi was running after his father, a comment that generated interest because of the growing political activities of the City Boy Movement ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
However, the President’s remarks did not amount to a formal announcement of any political position or candidacy for his son.
Instead, Tinubu encouraged Seyi to continue his work and reminded him that more responsibilities lay ahead.
The President’s comments placed a personal spotlight on Seyi’s role in the movement while reinforcing the importance of youth engagement and community organisation within the administration’s political support network.
City Boy Movement Reports 4.8 Million Registered Members
During the event, the Director-General of the City Boy Movement, Francis Oluwatosin Shoga, said the organisation had registered approximately 4.8 million members in its database.
Shoga explained that the movement operates under the slogan, “Inform, Engage, Inspire,” and aims to encourage young Nigerians to participate in national development and political activities.
He said the organisation intended to continue communicating the administration’s policies and achievements to Nigerians while encouraging patriotism and responsible civic participation.
The movement has also been positioning itself as an important part of the political mobilisation efforts supporting Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Ahmed Bala, Director-General of the Relax, Tinubu Is Fixing Nigeria support group, also expressed confidence in the administration’s reform agenda.
He said his organisation was targeting 10 million votes for Tinubu’s re-election bid, presenting the effort as part of its commitment to helping the administration complete its programmes.
The stated targets represent the groups’ ambitions and have not been independently verified as guaranteed electoral outcomes.
Shettima, Abbas and Other Leaders React
Vice President Kashim Shettima also praised the City Boy Movement, describing youth participation and organised political engagement as important elements of national development.
He acknowledged the contributions of young supporters and commended Seyi Tinubu for his involvement in building the movement.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, also commended the organisation for its structure and commitment to national development.
Abbas encouraged the movement to make greater use of technology to explain government policies and communicate the administration’s legislative achievements to Nigerians.
Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau similarly praised the group’s use of technology and artificial intelligence in its organisational activities and data management.
The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, also commended Tinubu for supporting youth participation in governance.
Tinubu Highlights Youth Development Initiatives
Beyond political mobilisation, the President used the occasion to reiterate his administration’s commitment to youth development.
Tinubu highlighted programmes such as the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), the Credit Corporation of Nigeria (CREDICORP) and the Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) initiative.
These programmes are intended to improve access to educational financing, expand credit opportunities and equip young Nigerians with technical skills.
The President said young people needed access to opportunities, resources and relevant skills to participate meaningfully in the economy and compete in an increasingly technology-driven world.
He also stressed the importance of giving young Nigerians opportunities to contribute to governance and national decision-making.
Political Significance Ahead of 2027 Elections
The meeting comes as political groups and supporters begin strengthening their networks ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The City Boy Movement’s reported membership figures, nationwide structure and stated mobilisation targets indicate its intention to play a significant role in efforts to secure support for Tinubu’s re-election.
However, the group’s ability to translate its organisational reach into votes will ultimately depend on public support, political participation and the wider electoral environment.
The event also renewed attention on Seyi Tinubu’s growing involvement in political mobilisation, particularly because of his position as patron of the movement.
For the Tinubu administration, the gathering provided an opportunity to recognise its youth supporters, highlight government initiatives and encourage continued grassroots engagement.
As Nigeria approaches another election cycle, the movement’s activities are likely to remain part of the broader political conversation surrounding youth participation, government reforms and the administration’s efforts to retain public support.
