President Tinubu Performs Umrah in Mecca, Prays for Nigeria’s Peace and Unity
The President completes the Islamic pilgrimage in Makkah after departing Abuja with prayers for Nigeria’s stability and development.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has travelled to Saudi Arabia to perform the Islamic pilgrimage of Umrah, where he is seeking divine guidance and blessings for Nigeria’s peace, unity, stability and development.
The Nigerian President arrived at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah on Thursday, October 29, 2026, ahead of his religious activities in Makkah.
According to reports, Tinubu was received at the airport by Nigeria’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Yakubu Gambo, and the Kingdom’s Head of Royal Protocol, Ahmad bin Thafir.
The visit is part of the President’s planned spiritual exercise, which the Presidency said would provide an opportunity for reflection, devotion and prayers for the country and its citizens.
Six Nigerian Governors Accompany Presidential Delegation
Before President Tinubu departed Abuja for Saudi Arabia, several Nigerian governors and senior government officials gathered at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport to see him off.
The governors included AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, Babagana Zulum of Borno State, Uba Sani of Kaduna State, Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto State, Umar Namadi of Jigawa State and Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State.
Other prominent government officials present included the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi.
Their presence highlighted the involvement of senior government officials in the President’s departure for the religious exercise.
However, the Presidency’s departure announcement identified the governors as officials who saw the President off in Abuja, rather than confirming that all six travelled with him to Makkah.
Tinubu Seeks Prayers for Nigeria’s Peace and Development
The Presidency explained that the President’s visit to Saudi Arabia would provide an opportunity to seek Allah’s guidance and blessings for Nigeria.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the government said the spiritual exercise would focus on the country’s peace, unity, stability and continued progress.
Nigeria has continued to face various challenges, including insecurity, economic difficulties, unemployment and rising living costs.
The President’s decision to undertake the pilgrimage comes at a time when many Nigerians are concerned about the country’s future and are looking for improvements in security, economic opportunities and general living conditions.
During his stay in Makkah, Tinubu is expected to undertake the religious rites associated with Umrah, commonly known as the lesser pilgrimage.
Saudi Arabian Ambassador Presents Tinubu With Traditional Gift
Before the President’s departure from Abuja, Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Yousef Bin Mohammed Al-Balawi, presented him with a traditional Arabian cloak known as a bisht.
The gift was presented on behalf of the Saudi Crown Prince.
The bisht is a traditional outer garment commonly worn during important ceremonies and formal occasions in several Arab countries.
The presentation took place ahead of the President’s journey to Saudi Arabia.
President Also Commissions Nigerian Air Force Equipment
Before travelling to Saudi Arabia, Tinubu also participated in official activities involving the Nigerian Air Force.
According to Voice of Nigeria, the President commissioned five newly acquired military helicopters, comprising two Airbus H-125 helicopters and three Agusta 109 Trekker B helicopters.
The equipment is intended to strengthen the operational capacity of the Nigerian Air Force in addressing terrorism and other security threats.
He also inaugurated a newly constructed Presidential Air Fleet Hangar at the airport before proceeding with his journey.
Tinubu Completes Umrah in Saudi Arabia
On Friday, October 30, 2026, the Saudi Press Agency reported that President Tinubu had performed the Umrah rituals in Makkah.
The development confirmed the completion of the religious exercise at the Grand Mosque.
The President is expected to return to Nigeria next week after completing his activities in Saudi Arabia, according to the earlier announcement by the Presidency.
As Nigerians follow the President’s visit, attention remains on the country’s security, economic development and the government’s efforts to address challenges affecting citizens.
The Presidency has presented the pilgrimage as an opportunity for spiritual reflection and prayers for the nation, with peace, unity and national progress identified as its central themes.
