European Football: Bournemouth Stun AC Milan as Bayern Suffer Injury Blow
European football produced a dramatic night on Thursday, 22 October 2026, as Bournemouth beat AC Milan 3–0 in the Europa League, Juventus were held to a 2–2 draw by Rennes, and Bayern Munich suffered an injury setback involving Luis Díaz. Crystal Palace also shared the points with Beşiktaş, while Celtic lost at home to Celta Vigo.
Bournemouth Impress Against AC Milan
Bournemouth defeated seven-time European champions AC Milan 3–0 at the Vitality Stadium. Justin Kluivert gave the hosts the lead in the eighth minute, converting a penalty after a handball decision.
Milan’s challenge became harder when goalkeeper Mike Maignan was sent off in the first half following an incident with Tyler Adams. Marcus Tavernier then scored from the penalty spot in the 32nd minute, giving Bournemouth a two-goal advantage before the break.
Milan struggled to recover with ten players. Amine Adli completed the victory in the 84th minute with a superb free-kick. The result continued Bournemouth’s perfect start to the Europa League league phase and delighted their supporters.
Juventus Held by Rennes
Juventus missed the chance to claim another win after drawing 2–2 with Rennes. Zeki Çelik put the Italian side ahead early, but Mousa Al-Tamari equalised for the visitors. Boulaye Dia then scored from the penalty spot before half-time, turning the contest in Rennes’ favour.
Juventus responded after the break, with Nick Woltemade converting a second-half penalty to secure a point. Juventus could not turn home advantage into victory.
Bayern Face Díaz Injury Concern
Bayern Munich’s 2–2 Champions League draw with Arsenal brought a worrying development. Luis Díaz sustained a minor muscle tear in his left hamstring during Wednesday’s match and will be sidelined for the foreseeable future, Bayern confirmed.
Bayern had taken the lead through Harry Kane after goals from Arsenal’s Eberechi Eze and Bayern’s Alphonso Davies had made it 1–1. Declan Rice later equalised for Arsenal, earning the visitors a point.
Díaz’s absence could affect Bayern’s attacking options during a busy schedule of domestic and European fixtures. The club has not announced a return date.
Palace Draw, Celtic Lose
Crystal Palace drew 2–2 away to Beşiktaş in Istanbul. Wilfred Ndidi gave the Turkish side the lead shortly before half-time, but Yeremy Pino and Jean-Philippe Mateta scored quickly after the restart to put Palace in front. Junior Olaitan equalised in the 73rd minute, ensuring the teams shared the points. Beşiktaş later had a player sent off.
Celtic, meanwhile, suffered a 2–1 home defeat against Celta Vigo. Mika Baur gave Celtic the lead early in the second half, but Javi Rodríguez scored twice in quick succession to complete the Spanish side’s comeback.
The night showed European football’s unpredictability. Bournemouth celebrated a major win, Juventus dropped points, and Bayern faced uncertainty over Díaz’s recovery. As the league phase continues, clubs will need consistency, squad depth and player fitness to sustain their campaigns. Supporters can look forward to more tense contests, important goals and unexpected results in the weeks ahead.
